Seven miles to Emmaus
Walking with us all day
And still we didn’t know him
He knew of every passage
Interpreting all the way
And still we didn’t know him

We could not make ourselves believe
Our notions preconceived, despite
The burning in our hearts

When we arrived in Emmaus
We asked for him to stay
But still we didn’t know him
He took the bread and said a blessing
He took our blindness away
And finally we knew him

Then he vanished from our sight
But we knew now what was right, we felt
The burning in our hearts

We went back to Jerusalem
And found the others praising him
They could feel the burning in their hearts
